Baramulla, Aug 06 (KNO): Female councilors from north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Thursday alleged that they were harassed by Municipal Committee (MC) Chairman and two other persons last night at a local hotel in Gulmarg. The councilors told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that yesterday they were sleeping in a local hotel in Gulmarg after traveling with their family members from the home. “On late-night, MC Chairman Umar Kakroo, Councilor Ashiq Hussain Ganaie, and one BDC Chairman entered into our room. They were drunk and started harassing us,” they said. “We called security forces and police for help following which we managed to get him out of our room,” they added. As per the reports, the councilors from Baramulla town were shifted to a hotel in Gulmarg till August 15 for security reasons. Meanwhile, BMC Chairman Baramulla, Umar Kakroo refuted the allegations. “There were some issues between the women councilors and being a chairman, I rushed to the spot to pacify them but now they are dragging me into a controversy,” he said. Kakroo further stated that police should investigate the matter properly. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Baramulla, Abdul Qayoom told KNO that there was some controversy between the two sides. “A case under FIR number 06/2020 under section 354/452 under relevant sections of law in Police Station Gulmarg has been registered and investigation is going on,” he said—(KNO)
